I wanted to provide a quick update on the situation for overnight layovers in Heathrow for flyers arriving from Red List countries. Limited areas of landside remain open (perhaps this is what the AA agent meant) but again not an option for the OP Only legal way to remain airside is to be in the custody of the UK Border Force.

Overnight transits do not work at LHR as the airport closes.Дepending on the arrival time of the CPT flight into LHR there may not be any flights to Europe to transfer to (not just BA but any airline). If you want to come via the UK it is only possible with an airside transit. UAE or Qatar perhaps if they have not closed borders.

You could try to get somewhere outside of Southern Africa. In fact you will be denied boarding at Cape Town if you do not hold a UK passport have have a highly expensive quarantine hotel booking. I am Platinum Pro on American.Д«A says I cannot change the ticket with them because it's a code share. My flights are on BA metal, but I purchased a code share ticket from American. However, I have been informed that I cannot loiter in the Heathrow Airport overnight because of 'security reasons.' I cannot leave the airport to stay in a hotel, because Cape Town South Africa is on the 'red list' of countries for COVID purposes. I have an upcoming flight from CPT to DFW, connecting with an overnight layover in LHR.
